Here at SEG we are not only give back to Mother Nature, we're give back to our communities. This year so far we volunteered our time and donated much needed supplies to the Market Street Mission. We also sent tents and traps to aid in the Haiti relief. This is just the beginning. Follow us this year as we continue to give and make a difference as we feed the hungry, walk for a cure, and clean up our local highways.

Earth Day 2010
This year marked the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Here at Smart Energy Group we decided celebrating earth day just amongst ourselves wasn't going to cut it; instead, we wanted to get other local businesses involved. We figured by doing this we would not only increase the awareness of the people around us, but we could generate more man power and therefore do more good than if we were acting alone. So what did we do? We handed out 100 Blue Spruce Seedlings for local businesses to plant in order to do their part this earth day. The USDA Forest service estimates a single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 lbs. per year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings. So we figured if we got a majority of those businesses to do the simple task of planting just one tree it could mean a whole lot of good for mother earth and mankind. If you didn't plant a tree on earth day, it's never too late. It's also never too late to rethink recycling. Along with our trees we also handed out some fun suggestions on how to get involved with recycling:
Books: Instead of collecting dust, donate your old books to AdoptALibrary.org, Bookends.org, and/or bookexchange.marin.org
Business Clothing: Donate business clothing to Dress for Success Worldwide (dressforsuccess.org) and help disadvantage men and women get a job with clothes you no longer wear.
Computers: Dont just throw away old computers! Donate them to any of the following affiliations, where they can redistribute different parts, dispose of toxic components properly, and/or refurbish them to give them to people in need. World Computer Exchange (worldcomputerexchange.org), NextStep (nextsteprecycling.org), or Non-profit Recycling Network (recycles.org)
Sneakers: Instead of taking up space in landfills, send your old athletic sneakers to the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program to be recycled into surfaces for playgrounds, running tracks, basketball and tennis courts, as well as infill for synthetic turf fields.
Eye Glasses: New Eyes for the Needy (neweyesfortheneedy.com) distributes old glasses, sunglasses, hearing aids, watches, and more to people in developing nations.
Smart Energy Group encourages you to do your part. Even something as simple as planting a tree or recycling old items makes all the difference. For any further questions on how you can do your part, contact Smart Energy Group.
